Back-to-School Snack Ideas

All the busyness of heading back to school is sure to cause you to work up an appetite! Let’s talk about back-to-school snack ideas to curb your cravings with good-for-you treats that support your health, including your dental health.

Crunchy Fruits and Veggies

Whole, crunchy foods are a great way to fill up on fiber. Fun fact: crunchy fruits like apples have been nicknamed nature’s toothbrush for their ability to help scrub your teeth clean while you chew!

If you have braces, it’s best to avoid whole, crunchy foods while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment, but you can always check with your orthodontist which fruit and veggies you can cut up into bite-sized pieces to help make them safe to eat with your braces.

Dairy for the Win

Dairy is one of our favorite back-to-school snack ideas because there are so many options (and many of them are braces-friendly!). From yogurt and cheese to milk and fondue dips, there truly is something for everyone who loves dairy!

Another reason we love dairy is because of all the calcium and other nourishing vitamins and minerals it contains that help to support healthy teeth and bones!

Smoothies

If you’re busy and want a delicious and tasty treat you can take on the road with you, a smoothie is the way to go. Smoothies are also very braces-friendly, so it’s a double-win!

Smoothies can be packed full of nutrients by adding leafy greens like kale or spinach, yogurt, protein powders, or even extra vitamin boosts to support a healthy immune system. The possibilities are nearly endless with this refreshing go-to snack!

Don’t Forget to Brush Your Teeth!

Healthy back-to-school snack ideas are important to keep your energy up and your whole body strong, but even when you eat healthy food, the particles, acids, and sugars the food leaves behind can still cause issues if they aren’t washed away promptly. Dentists recommend brushing your teeth 3 times a day or after each meal and flossing daily to help ensure that no residue sticks around to cause cavities. So don’t forget to brush your teeth after your snack to keep your smile looking and feeling its very best!
